Toronto Day 4 and Day 5

Well we were out late last night so I didn’t get a chance to update sooner. I am writing this sitting in Pearson Airport in Toronto. Our flight theoretically boards in five minutes but it looks like we are going to be delayed.

On Sunday – gay pride day in Canada – we went to a suburb of town called Mimico. It is were they shot the exterior for De Grassi Jr. High. So Ani and me take a “GO Train” which is like Metro north or LIRR, out to Mimico. I had made a crude map and we were looking for the biggest street we could find on it. We eventually get to Lake Shore Boulevard, but find ourselves about 35 blocks in the wrong direction. We grab a streetcar and get over there.

As we turned the corner Ani saw the school and was blown away. We took a ton of pictures (yeah this I take pictures of but Girls Gone Wild Toronto nothing!). Ani was pointing out where one characters brother told him he was gay. And where the bike rack was. It was like it was where she went to Jr. High. But in a lot of ways, watching something on TV that is going on at the same time you are experiencing similar things it is like you live vicariously through it.

So we head back to the train station. On one of the buses were this kind of bizarre white trash couple who were bringing their kid to the gay pride parade. I guess they are very open in Canada.

We did a little shopping in the Eaton Centre, including having our second helping of Poutine. Which are basically French fire, cheese curds, and gravy. We bought it at KFC and it was awesome! I looked around and wondered why there weren’t so many fat Canadians.

I’d like to open a Big and Tall men’s shop in Canada called “The Great Wide North”.

We went back to the hotel and hit the pool. The Mets had just finished taking the series with the Blue Jays on Carlos Delgado’s birthday. The pool and the hot tub were really refreshing. We showered up and headed out to see a Second City performance of “Bird Flu Over the Cuckoos Nest”.

It was a great show and really thought provoking. The food there kind of sucked, so Ani and I went to a little bar to get some more grub. We sat out in this dark patio for like five minutes before we got a menu or anything. Eventually we got menus and got an appetizer platter and some wings. The wings were awesome. The smell of the wing sauce was so strong on our noses. We stiffed the girl on the tip. That shows you next time you should be a little quicker.

We grabbed a cab and headed back.

We got lucky that the weather held until this morning, we got a slight drizzle as we went out to get some breakfast. King Street is the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment district. That is where Lord of the Rings is and countless bars that having “Lord of the Wings” specials. We then packed up our bags, and checked out. We left our bags and went to check out “Old Town Toronto”. Not too impressive.

Couldn’t find the cobble stone streets, so we head back for a quick bite to eat. That is when we found a twenty-dollar bill in the ATM right before we used it. Cool. We caught some of the Jazz festival and got to our hotel were a cab was waiting.

When we got to the airport we went through US customs, Canadian customs, security and then the duty free shop and now we wait for our delayed plane to board. I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed.

By the way. The flight ended up leaving 2 hours after it was originally scheduled to take off. I did a crossword puzzle and was saddend taht the cross word was already done in the airplane magazine. A little tip, the name Enos Slaughter is often used in crossword puzzles the clue usually is ... Baseball player Slaughter.

Did you know that Anne Hathaway from the Princess Diaries and Ella Enchanted was topless in Brokeback Mountain?
